Single Phase Open Frame Control Transformers

Typical applications for this type of electrical transformer are motor control, machine tool control, control panels, alarm systems, distribution boards etc. The transformers can be step down and step up, or 1:1 isolation, supplied as open types with universal frames for vertical or horizontal mounting with either terminal blocks, rail terminals, solder tags or nickel plated brass stud connections.

A wide range of supply voltages can be accommodated on the primary windings at any frequency, typically 50 Hz, 60 Hz, or 400 Hz. In addition, multiple secondary windings can be accommodated anything from a few volts up to several thousand volts. Currents from a few milliamps up to several thousands amps. Complex or high voltage windings may require a larger frame size to be used to accommodate the windings and insulation. Transformers in this range can also have fuses fitted on the top panel.

The majority of our isolation transformers incorporate an electrostatic screen between the primary and secondary windings and are built in compliance with the latest European and International standards. Some of the lower rated transformers are available with a dual chamber winding bobbin  with covers that give 4kV isolation between primary and secondary windings, giving a Class 2 construction. Other worldwide standards, e.g. UL, CSA or marine standards can also be met. In addition, isolation from the supply may not be required, and in this instance an Auto Wound transformer may be considered to economise on size and cost.

The table gives indicative sizes for various ratings based on single input and output voltages but is by no means exhaustive; it is just an attempt to give you a feel for the range of products that we are able to manufacture.
